The restaurant is situated on the 2nd floor within The Edition Hotel, by Madison Park, NYC. A group of us gathered to enjoy the mostly reviewed and rated “Fish and Chips” British style in the Big Apple. Hmm, but little did we know that it was only served on the lunch menu hour and not at dinner service. Well, you live and learn. Personally we were disappointed as my husband and I who had just relocated from London to NYC and wanted a taste of the old English – anyway another excuse to comeback to this place at lunch time, hay!
Upon walking into the hotel you are greeted by the bar on the right hand side, with a few comfy seats mainly taken up by the young professional crowd of Manhattan. Seems like everyone’s having a good time.
The four of us went straight into the restaurant on the upper floors of the hotel. Our host for the evening runs through the specials and disappears with our cocktail orders – oh and for those have you that don’t know the chef here is British and hence the cocktail names. For those Brit’s visiting they will appreciate the cocktail menu, especially the “Del Boy”, he who dares wins…The drinks seemed to have a slight more spirit than I had anticipated, leaving me and our guests slight tipsy, but enough to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Our mains varied, between sea bass, duck and off course the fillet mignon. The fact that there wasn’t anything left on anyone’s plate, just spoke for itself (or maybe, we were all too drunk?) No, just kidding. We were all sober enough to appreciate the British inspired menu. As the waiters were in such rush during each course to remove the service we ordered our desert and hot beverages.
We cant help, but not comment about the rush of the staff, no wonder they called it the “Clock Tower” time is money and money is time….”this time next year we will be millionaires” (Sorry, that will only make sense to those that are familiar with the character Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses)!
Honestly they were removing food off the table as we were eating, that’s not cool!! Let me indulge my food and saveur each bite, without having the thought that it be swept off the table at any given moment. By the way – the bread in this place was unbelievable with the freshly made sea salted butter, so in the event your main is not what you anticipated just order more bread!
