The first thing one notices as soon as you enter Roux at Parliament, Square, London is the old, yet so sophisticated traditional style of British décor.
As keen diners we arrived an hour and half early, and decided to kill sometime in the first floor bar. It has an amazing old gentleman’s feel to the place, even masonic feel to it in a strange way. The cocktail and wine were superb recommended by the friendly waiter, were absolutely stunning, just as much as the ambience of the room. A major let down was the lack of snacks that were provided with our cocktails, which would have been a hit.
Anyway at 6:30pm we were escorted down to our table, a beautiful dinning room with just enough spaces between the tables, were one isn’t intruding others privacy, but close enough to feel homely.
We opted for the taster menu, and I can truly say each course was just outstanding a 9/10. As a meat lover, we were truly taken back by the main course, of fried sea-bass.
Each course came out at perfectly timed intervals it was as if they could pre-empt an upcoming awkward silence! The deserts were stunning, you could taste every ingredient in all their bold dishes nothing on the plate ever felt out of place. The detail in every dish was so well executed that nearly all ingredients could be tasted and smelt. It was just as if you had every fresh ingredient before you.
The only reason this place was not ranked as outstanding was firstly, because the dinning room was a little on the quiet side, maybe that’s how they can judge the perfect moment to bring out each course?
Roux at Parliament Square, we take your hats’ off and take a bow, well and truly deserved!
