We booked this place on a recommendation and we had a table booked for 8:15pm. We arrived at 8:00pm and were told they were running late, I asked how late and was told about 20 minutes. Am a patient guy so off we went to the bar for a drink and expected to be seated by 8:45 at latest.
8:45 came and went, we were now at 9:00 pm and still no sign of a waiter to come and seat us. I got up and asked what was going on they said sorry and sent over flat champagne as a compliment, more an of insult!
Now, we got to 9:45pm and still no sign of anyone taking us to our table so we complained again and stood at the reservations check in desk arguing the point of reservations is flawed and we did not want another glass of the flat champagne. They clearly heard us and bumped us up the list and we were finally seated just after 10pm – nearly 2 hours past our original reservation!!!
Anyway, food was really good we had the dim sum platter for two, which was extremely tasteful, along with the chilli tiger prawns, which were just too good to share. The size portions of these dishes are good enough to share between two people.
However, the group of four of us ordered our main courses differently, which included the; Fillet of beef, which was a disappointment as I had requested medium rear, but clearly got medium. I just did not want to send it back as I could not bare waiting any longer that evening for anything! The Sizzling short rib was just meat coming off the bone, very succulent in taste and moist, with loads of flavours. However, Kung Pao Monkfish was just as bland as anything. It lacked the basics, no seasons at all, whatsoever!!
The two side dishes included vegetable rice, which was superb along with the noodles and lobster just had the right amount of spices and textures.
Our evening came to a close with the pleasantly good taste of the desert, known as the “Crying Chocolate”, served with coffee ice-cream. It was a high note ending desert. We also ordered the “Banana Pudding”, which again, lacked taste. The pudding tasted like if it was made using a powder mix.
So in short, I would love to go back, but the whole reservation delay has put me off this place as this is basic dining etiquette i.e expect to be seated within a reasonable time of booking, not 2 hours later!!
