I was on business trip in NY in early September of 2016, when we had booked ahead to dine at the “Worlds 3rd ranked Restaurant”, Eleven Madison Park, NYC.
The dinning experience was truly and utterly average, and that is average in comparison to most regular establishments that we have visited within the San Pellegrino List. This was no where near the league of fine luxury dinning experience that one would expect from a top ranked restaurant.
We were at the Clove Club, based in London the month prior and that place just took our breath away with each course, unlike the very bland, but over-used cheese in each course that was served here. By the end of the evening, we both thought we wont be touching any form of dairy for the next year or so, as we had way too much.
There was no innovation in the style of the chef’s cooking skills, as all the courses we took our first bites, just wanted to spit it back out. Yes, it was that awful. There were far more gimmicks (presentation and games) that the chef had paid attention to, yet failed miserably to add flavours to his dishes. Fine dining is a great balance of both these acts, which not every chef is able to execute. Well, it was clear in this instance!
To add insult to injury, we took our time and wrote to “Eleven Madison Park”, with our thoughts and feedback, but like many of the reviews we read online, we didn’t hear anything back. It is sad to see when you walk away from an establishment like this, you would hope that they maintain personal relations. Yet, again, they failed!! It is on this merit they have gone from an average to a poor rating!!
On a final note, what actually was a quite pleasant surprise, was the goodie bag that we left with, which included a jar of organic granola and a small tin, which included the menu.
Eleven Madison Park – Dinning is not just about food, it is about connecting with your diners, maintaining the desire for one to revisit.
